Judith entertains guests

10 Oct

Maid:   Now that you have Holofernes head, have you thought about dinner?  For some reason, I am REALLY hungry.

Coccapani Sigismondo, “Judith And Holofernes,” c.1610-1640, oil on canvas, 99 x 76.2 cm, auctioned by Phillips, London 5/10/1983 (Lot 78)

Which reminds me of something that has been bothering me all along.  If you purchase this work of art or a reproduction of any of these depictions of Judith, where do you display this in your home?

The entrance?  “Welcome to my humble abode. We try to keep things harmonious here no matter what it takes.”

The living room?  “Make yourself at home. Put your feet up and rest your weary head.”

The dining room?  “I had the cook prepare a delicious tray this evening.  Do try the head cheese.”
