Judith styles for Fall

19 Oct

Bartolomeo Biscaino, “Judith leaving Holofernes Tent,” c.1650-56, oil on canvas, private collection

Definitely not from the Spring or Summer Collection.  In this artwork, Judith is attired for Fall, wearing a rust-colored paisley print mantua gown with virago sleeves, ruched over the top of the arm and showing a draping under-sleeve of moss green.  A scarf of the same fabric attaches to the décolletage just in front of the arm and drapes elegantly down the back.  The dog-bone panels on the sleeve adds a festive look.  She sports a matching headpiece gathered with jewels.   An ensemble perfect for decapitating the General laying siege to your town.  “Make it work.”
