Judith touched by an angel

02 Apr

This kind of pisses me off.  After all this time, while Judith was perfectly capable of handling the situation on her own – planning and executing the entire scheme – now we have to send in an angel to whisper ideas in her ear?

Gian Gioseffo dal Sole, “Judith inspired by the angel,” 1697, oil on canvas , 210 x 290 cm, Museo di Castelvecchio, Verona, Italy

Plus, this makes her seem a little psychotic.  I mean, there sits Holofernes directly across from her – and he does not see the angel.  And then there stands the maid right next to her – and she does not see the angel.  So how can we be sure there really IS an angel instead of freaky voices in Judith’s head?

Nothing a little Zyprexa can’t fix.
