Point Judith is a village and a small cape on the western side of Narragansett Bay where it opens onto Rhode Island Sound, the departure for year-round ferry service to Block Island.   Legend says the area was named after Judith Thatcher –  a passenger on a boat with her father when it ran aground on the point and was almost wrecked.    Allegedly, Judith helped to save the boat from disaster, and the crew called the point after her to honor her deed.

And it produces great oysters.
