Judith receives signals

09 Jun

Pietro Ricchi (il Lucchese), “Judith with the Head of Holofernes,” 1660-70, Oil on canvas, 131 x 105 cm, Narodna Galerija, Ljubljana, Slovenia

Ye Gads.  It’s the pom-poms and the turban again.  Back in August last year, Vaccaro depicted Judith with pom-poms in her hair  – and then del Cairo put a enormous turban on her head in February.    Now Ricchi combines a turban AND pom-poms in headgear that begins to rival Marie Antoinette’s.   Then Ricchi gives Judith a vacant expression – an open mouth gape towards nothing-in-particular – that leaves her looking befuddled.

Like maybe her hat is too heavy for her brain to function properly.

Or possibly she is receiving signals from UFO’s.
