Judith da Vezzzzzzzzzzzzzzo

Virginia da Vezzo, “Judith And Holofernes,” 1624-26, Musee des Beaux Arts,     Nantes, France

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.  Oh I’m sorry.  Did I wake you?

This has got to be one of the most boring depictions of Judith ever.   She even looks like she is about to nod off.

I know, I know – it is the work of Virginia da Vezzo, wife of Simon Vouet.   The only acknowledged canvas by the artist (1).   Although it is possible she is responsible for some of the work credited to Vouet.   And she most certainly modeled for Vouet.

But this Judith looks so smug.  So nonchalant.   So disinterested.   *yawn* Like any minute she will put down the sword … and lay her head …… over her grisly trophy …… and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
