Judith has a chill

16 Nov

Yesterday’s post was speaking of textiles.   So let’s continue that direction, but with a contemporary perspective.   Thus I give you: Sergey Zagorski and his series “Quilt”.

Sergey Zagorskiy, from the series “Quilt”: “Judith,” 2011, Oil on cardboard, 32 x 18 cm, http://www.artnow.ru

First, there is Judith looking green under a quilt of chartreuse and jade and moss.   She appears to be somewhat queasy.   Something she ate at the banquet?

But I love the colors and shapes and textures of the paint.  It shimmers.

Next, a sleeping beauty with pink flowers in her hair to match her lips.   Snuggled under a quilt of violet and mint green with golden rings of light.   I would dream of spring, too.

Finally, this somber blonde with a pillow of gold – laying still under a quilt of dark blue sky with turquoise birds on the wing.    The clouds behind her and the ominous title lead me to suspect she might be in Her Eternal Rest.

Not exactly what I expected from a quilt.
