Judith in wrapped in Ruby Red

10 Jan

Filippo Vitale, “Judith and Holofernes,” c.1620, Oil on canvas, 83 x 114 cm,    Private collection

Love, love, love this color!   Ruby, Cherry, Amaranth, Cerise, Scarlet, Cardinal, Vermillion, Crimson, Folly, Candy apple, Lust.

(Lust is a color?  Never saw that in my box of crayons.)

They all sound delicious.  Except Cardinal – neither the bird or the clergy.  And they all sound vibrant – like the color of life.

Unfortunately for Holofernes, while this vivid red is invigorating for Judith, it is not the color of life for him.
