Judith has family ties

Louis-Auguste Moreau, “Judith,” Bronze sculpture, 33 cm, James D. Julia Auctions, 8/27/04 (Lot 1646)

Louis-Auguste Moreau, “Judith,” Bronze sculpture, 21 cm, Alderfer Auction Company, 8/28/08 (Lot 3425)

Louis-Auguste Moreau was the youngest son of sculptor and painter Jean-Baptiste Moreau – brother to Hippolyte and Marthurin who were also renowned for the quality and beauty of their sculptures.   Between the four of them, they produced a wealth of bronze sculptures.

These two statutes are “sisters” – one taller than the other but there is an obvious family resemblance.   and they both have taken their poses from Girls Gone Wild.   Their mother must be so proud.
