Judith and the Red Riding Hood

Marcelle Hanselaar, “Judith and Holofernes,” 1998, Oil on canvas, 38 x 46 cm, New Hall Art Collection, Murray Edwards College, University of Cambridge, Cambridge, UK

Finding this Judith was a pleasant surprise.  Determined, resolute and colorful, too.  She is a refreshing representation of my namesake.

But why is the maid such a scaredy cat?  She missed her chance at 15 decades of fame by hiding behind Judith.  Instead she looks like she is ready to cover Judith’s head in case the decapitation gets too grisly.

HA!!  Like that would ever happen.
